Dreamer Ibiza
product care advise

We are passionate about creating jewellery for you to treasure

Our jewellery and accessories are handmade with the main materials being natural gemstones, crystals, nickel-free metals and semi-precious materials so each piece may vary in size and colour.

When you visit our online shop, you may find that the product images of our jewellery appear differently on iOS and computer devices.

Semi-precious stones loose buster and shine over time, so we have some important tips on how to care for your jewellery.

Dreamers Ibiza jewellery and accessories are full of variety and colour. We have 100s of jewellery styles combining semi-precious stones, metals and other materials all in one piece. Because of this, we recommend minimal cleaning with warm, mild soapy water as a general tip. You can learn more about product care by finding out what your piece of jewellery is made with and reading the sections relating to the materials.

Jewellery is made for us to decorate our body and compliment our personal style. Dreamers Ibiza handmade jewellery is somewhat durable and made to last a summer season or even longer if you follow our product care advise.

HANDLE WITH CARE

Dreamers Ibiza jewellery and accessories are often worn day and night by people who collect our pieces.

The delicate pieces of jewellery such as gold and silver plated chains and intricate designs with protruding clasps and stones should be removed at night to keep them in good condition; wear responsibly using the golden rule for jewellery: last to put on and first to take off.

Also, remove when doing strenuous or messy tasks. Keep away from chemicals and be aware that swimming in pools or the sea and being near the salty air of beach environments may affect some of the materials in your piece of jewellery.

When putting your jewellery on or taking it off please handle with care. If the piece of jewellery has semi-precious stones then avoid pulling on these and instead handle by the thread, clasp or for rings and bangles, the metal parts.

Our handmade jewellery is made as one size fits all with some rings and bangles designed as adjustable. These pieces have durability to allow for adjustments, however, resizing these pieces to fit your body needs to be done with care and attention. Repetitive adjustment or over stretching metals will cause premature wear and tear.

HOW TO CLEAN

When cleaned regularly and with care, jewellery lasts longer and stays in better condition. It stops the buildup of potentially harmful chemicals and keeps the metals, soft materials and stones free of anything that may scratch or dis-colour them. Everyone has a different skin pH which may affect your jewellery and cause it to tarnish. Acidic skin causes the jewellery to tarnish rapidly, gentle regular cleaning will help prevent this.

Be very careful to check the materials in your jewellery piece before using home remedies like toothpaste and ammonia because some of these won’t work for the different gemstones.

Commercially prepared jewellery cleaners are safe but extra care should be taken with particularly sensitive gems like pearls, crystals or gold and silver plated products.

Jewellery should never be scrubbed, use a soft brush to gently clean and buff. A toothpick is great for picking out accumulations of dirt or dust, but be gentle.

Be gentle and patient when cleaning your jewellery.

HOW TO STORE

To ensure your jewellery remains scratch-free and in good condition, it should be stored just as you bought it. A padded jewellery box is a great idea so you can keep rings, bracelets and necklaces etc separately in padded sections.

Heat, light and humidity affects different kinds of gemstones and metals so find a place to store that has a good temperature balance and is away from sunlight.

Check the materials that your jewellery is made of. Be careful not to store in a place where there is air conditioning or climate control because this can absorb moisture from delicate gems such as Opal.

HOW TO POLISH

Polishing your jewellery brings back lustre and shine but remember to be gentle and only use a soft, lint-free cloth or chamois.

HEAT AND LIGHT

Sudden changes from cold to hot can make metals and some stones brittle and they could crack or break. Please be aware of this particularly when using on vacation.

Most of Dreamers Ibiza jewellery has been designed and assembled as beachwear accessories so are more durable, however, they are still vulnerable to the environment if you wish to keep your piece of jewellery in the same condition as when you bought it.

STRINGING MEDIA WE USE

COTTON THREADS

Italian wax threads have a thickness and are hardwearing. So as not to remove the wax coating, wash with care using cold water, then gently dried away excess water using a dry cloth; then allow to dry out naturally.

Unwaxed threads are the same as waxed threads but can be washed in warm soapy water.

MIXED NYLON THREADS

Mixed colour Nylon threads can be washed in warm soapy water, rinse with clean water, then allow to dry. The colours will not run as they have been colour-fasted. Colours may fade over time due to natural wear and tear or sun exposure.

SILK THREAD

To maintain silk thread jewellery keep away from water.

LEATHER

Avoid using a wet cloth or immersing the leather in water. Put a small dab of leather cleaner on the cloth on both sides. Rinse and dampen the cloth with clean water and wipe the leather clean & dry.

FAUX LEATHER

Pat with a damp cloth. Avoid using a wet cloth or immersing the leather in water.

SPUN GOLD

Take extra care, gentle dab or pat with a damp cloth. Avoid using a wet cloth or immersing the leather in water.

SPUN SILVER

Take extra care, gentle dab or pat with a damp cloth. Avoid using a wet cloth or immersing the leather in water.

CRYSTAL / CRYSTALLINE WE USE

Swarovski recommends that you occasionally polish each piece with a soft lint-free cloth. If your jewellery becomes very dirty, wash with warm soapy water and a soft brush; then, rinse with clean water and dry with a soft lint-free cloth.

JAPANESE BEADS

Wash with warm soapy water and a soft brush; then, rinse with clean water and dry with a soft lint-free cloth.

ABOUT THE METALS WE USE

NICKEL FREE GUIDELINES

0 - 5 WITHOUT NICKEL

5 -10 CONTAINS NICKEL

Dreamers Ibiza aims to produce nickel-free jewellery. Some of the products may change colour because they do not contain Nickel. Nickel free metals are better for the environment and the wearer.

BASE METALS WE USE

A base metal is a common and inexpensive metal, as opposed to a precious metal such as gold or silver. Our gold and silver lines of jewellery are usually made with a base metal and either gold plated, silver plated or made with sterling silver 925.

Dreamers Ibiza jewellery is made with nickel-free base metals and are bought from responsible, reliable sources where ever possible. If we discover any of our suppliers are not providing the materials we hold in our philosophies and values we change our sources. However we are not able to recall or alter any products that have already been produced and distributed for retail.

CHAINING GOLD PLATED 18K

Clean plated jewellery with a very soft cloth to remove any dust and dirt. Gently rub the chain surface from one end to the other. Do not use a polishing cloth as this will strip away the plating. To keep in best condition, remove when doing heavy or messy chores and when showering at night.

GOLD PLATED

Clean plated jewellery with a very soft cloth to remove any dust and dirt. Gently rub the surface gently. Do not use a polishing cloth as this will strip away the plating. To keep in best condition, remove when doing heavy or messy chores and when showering at night.

Our gold plated jewelry are made using Nickel free base metals and the gold plated is varies depending on the product design. Gold plating thickness could be anything from 0.5 to 5 microns. Check product details for specific information, or contact us if you have a question.

STERLING SILVER 925

Sterling silver 925 will tarnish over time because of oils from your skin which accumulate on the surface of silver causing oxidisation. Use warm water and gentle wash your sterling silver 925, then dry using a soft cloth. You can delay tarnishing by regularly polishing. Do not wear in a hot tub, mineral spring, swimming pool, or any other chemically treated water. Remove when doing household chores involving chemicals. Wearing your jewelry often, may be one of the best ways to keep it looking beautiful and reduce tarnish buildup.

We recommend you wash them with powder bicarbonate every 6 months to achieve more brightness.

SILVER PLATED

If your silver-plated items are showing some signs of tarnish and require a light clean, using plain old soap and water can restore its shine. Use a mild liquid soap and warm water to create a foamy solution in a container. Submerge the jewellery in the water for several minutes.

We recommend you wash them with powder bicarbonate every 6 months to achieve more brightness.

BRONZE (BRASS)

Bronze is an alloy made of copper and tin with a warm golden colour. Bronze can oxidise, however, this can be prevented by taking your jewellery off at night and keeping it clean.

Bronze or brass can be cleaned using warm soapy water, then, rinse. Gently polish the item with a soft cloth until dry and shiny.

COPPER

Copper is durable and is a good metal base for jewellery making. It is said to have healing properties. Copper will develop a natural green patina and oxidises over time.

Copper jewellery only needs occasional cleaning. Washing with warm, soapy water, then, dry and polish with a soft cloth.

HEMITITE

Hematite is the mineral form of iron oxide and has a striking metallic luster, similar to polished metal. It is an extremely hard, brittle metal.

Clean hematite using warm soapy water with soft cloth and wet a second cloth with plain water to remove soapy residue. Dry with a dry soft cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or cleaning fluid, bleach or acid. Remove jewellery during vigorous physical activity, such as exercise, sports or household chores.

MIXED METALS (ALLOY)

Jewellers use mixed metals to strengthen the material and improve durability during wear. A mix of two or more metals is called an alloy. A metal alloy for jewellery, like sterling silver, is a better solution for most jewellery.

Alloy metals can be cleaned using warm soapy water, then, rinse. Gently polish the item with a soft cloth until dry and shiny.

ZINC

Zinc is usually mixed with other metals to make zinc alloys for jewellery. It is used for jewellery making because of its versatility and corrosion resistance.

Use an old rag or cloth and lemon juice or vinegar or baking powder to clean zinc. However, our jewellery often contains mixed metals and semi-precious stones so please check your jewellery before cleaning.

ZAMAK (ZAMAC / ALLOY)

Zamak is a fabulous choice of mixed metal for jewellery. Zamak is a mix alloy of zinc aluminium magnesium and copper that is dipped in silver.

Zamak cleaner AL is a mildly alkaline soak cleaner for aluminium which can also be used with zinc and other reactive metals.

The best way to clean your gemstone jewellery is in a bowl of water with a few drops of ordinary dish detergent. Using an old soft toothbrush, scrub gently behind the stone where dust and soap can collect. Then just rinse and pat dry with a soft cloth.

To keep your gemstone looking brilliant, remove them before vigorous exercise or working with your hands. Some gem varieties might be damaged with a sharp blow. When removing your rings, don’t pull them off by the gemstone: this won’t damage the gem but it can, over time, stretch the metal that holds it in place, making the setting less secure.

AGATE

Agate is a quartz so has a hardness and it durable. It can be easily cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Do not use any other objects that are harder than the gemstone for scrubbing or cleaning.

AMAZONITE

Amazonite gemstones can be vulnerable to pressure and scratches. With extreme heat the colour can fade, however, they can be easily cleaned using warm water and mild soap or detergent.

APATITE

Apatite is usually very sensitive to high temperatures; but this depends on the pre-treatment of the gemstone. In general, handle with care and use mild, warm, soapy water to clean.

BLACK ONYX STONE

Onyx has a hardness which makes it durable but can still scratch or chip. It is also porous so absorbs water easily. Use a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush to wipe off dirt. You can also use a little water to moisten a cloth to make cleaning easier. Don't wet the stone or soak it in water.

HAND PAINTED TURQUOISE BEADS

Our eco-friendly policy affects the gems we use in our jewellery. We do not believe in adding to depleting natural resources and Turquoise Stone is now rare and valuable in finer grades. It has mined for thousands of years owing to its unique hue. In our turquoise ranges of jewellery we use White Jasper Stone hand-painted in turquoise. The quality and colour of these beads are very good and create a fabulous, environmentally friendly alternative to the rare gemstone. Clean hand-painted beads gently with a soft, lint free cloth.

HANDPAINTED MATERIALS

Clean with warm soapy water and a damp cloth, then clean with damp cloth to take off soap. Clean gently.

JAPANESE BEADS

Wash with warm soapy water and a soft brush; then, rinse with clean water and dry with a soft lint-free cloth.

JASPER

Jasper is a durable stone, however, because it is also porous, the best method for cleaning is to wash with warm, soapy water or even better, polish with a clean soft, dry cloth. Minimise wearing during messy tasks or sports activities.

LAPIS LAZIUS

Lapis Laxius requires a little extra care. Protect from acidic substances, chemicals and hot water. Clean with warm, soapy water.

LAVA STONE

Lava Stone is porous. It needs to be kept in a dry environment to avoid oxidation. Exposure to chemicals, hairspray, perfumes etc or water will affect Lava beads. To clean Lava Stone you can run mild soapy hot water over the stone, but do not soak in water and rinse well to take away the soap's fragrance.

MORGANITE

Morganite is a relatively hard stone so can be cleaned with warm, soapy water and can stand up to rigorous cleaning. In some rare cases morganite might be fracture filled so if this appears to e the case only clean with warm, soapy water.

PEARLS

Organic gems like pearls require special care because they are porous. Make sure you don’t expose them to the chemicals in hair products, fragrances and cosmetics. To clean them, simply wipe clean with a soft cloth.

PINK OPAL

Opal has medium scale hardness so should be cleaned gently with mild detergent in warm water and a soft brush or cloth. Avoid chemicals and cleaners. Never be soaked or immerse in water.

SPINEL

Spinel is durable because it has hardness. For care and cleaning, use warm soapy water. Spinel is rarely heat treated in the process other than cutting and polishing but may occasionally have fractures. Cleaning with warm, soapy water is always safe.

TIGER-EYE

Tiger eye is a quartz minerals and is a fairly hard stone that is easy to care for. Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Do not use any other objects that are harder than the gemstone for scrubbing or cleaning.

VOLCANIC STONE

Lava Stone is porous. It needs to be kept in a dry environment to avoid oxidation. Exposure to chemicals, hairspray, perfumes etc or water will affect Lava beads. To clean Lava Stone you can run mild soapy hot water over the stone, but do not soak in water and rinse well to take away the soap's fragrance.
